Dear Silver Boy,
This week you will celebrate your 16th birthday, and although I have only known you since you were about 15 and a half, you have already added a whole lifetime's worth of happiness to my world. You are the best, sweetest, coolest, heart-adopted son a virtual mother could ever dream of. If I could have special-ordered a son for myself at some point in my life, I would have wanted him to be just like you.
My birthday wish for you is that one day soon you will wake up and suddenly understand how special you truly are. I want you to see the amazing qualities in yourself that I can so easily see in you. I have learned from all of our talks that you are kind, caring, thoughtful, creative, adventurous, charming, witty and wise. And you are also one of the bravest young men I imagine I will ever know. I mean, you have to be if you are going to continue saving the world from zombies, right? ;)
I know that at this time in your life, it feels like your adulthood- and maybe even your freedom- is still pretty far away, but it will be here before you know it, and then, like we have spoken about before, the entire rest of your life will be ALL YOURS to live as openly, artistically, and passionately as you want! And, I want you to know that I intend to be there for all of it- still cheering you on, only by then, I would prefer to at least sometimes be within hugging distance.
Your future is brighter than you can even comprehend- so bright that you might need to get yourself some fashionable hipster sunglasses to wear at some point to keep the light of it from burning those sparkling emerald eyes of yours.
Darren Criss once said, "That which makes you different is what makes you strong." I agree with him. So, whenever you find yourself feeling different, don't fight it- OWN it! Or as (my imaginary father) Tim Gunn would say, "Make it work!" I think you will learn as you grow older that it's the *different people* who make the world go 'round, while the so-called *normal* people sit on the sidelines and watch... wishing that they could be different too... wishing that they could be more like you.
There is something I want you to always remember throughout the rest of your life's adventures: No matter where you go, no matter what you do... I will always, ALWAYS be there for you, and I will always, ALWAYS love you. Nothing makes me happier than picturing you all grown up and living your life freely the way I know you so strongly desire to. And who knows- maybe someday your relatives will come around, but either way- as long as I live and breathe, I promise you, you will ALWAYS have a family. <3
I believe in you and I am immeasurably proud of you.
Please always protect that heart of yours- it's a good one.
Happy birthday, son. :)
P.S. OMG! 16!!! You'll be getting your license to drive soon! You better drive safe or I will have to *virtually* ground you! *hehe* Yesterday when I told you that rules were meant to be broken, that did NOT apply to driving. lol. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! xD
